THEATERSZENE EUROPA Kölner Universitäts-Theater Woche
the Cologne University Theatre Week is the best renowned university-theatre-festival in Germany. It is organised by the IUTU in co-operation with the Studiobühne of the university Cologne. It is sponsored by the federal ministry of education, science, research and technology and the German foreign office and other public and private Sponsors. This bi-national festival, that in the past ten years hosted Companies from the UK, Hungary, France, Austria, Switzerland, GDR, Poland, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Denmark, Israel, Italy, Norway, Greece, Ireland, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, Portugal and companies of numerous German cities, led these companies to Cologne to our work-meeting. It gives young people the opportunity, to get to know each other by working together with both international and national colleagues. In 2008 (10th - 17th of May) we will be the host of 12 companies from Austria and Germany plus various international observers (mainly festival-administratives).
IUTU THEATER-AKADEMIE
It is held annually in connection with the Cologne University Theatre Week with the aim to support and improve the intensive exchange of work (and techniques) by holding workshops with highly qualified experts. The Academy does the arranging, finding and placing of workshops and seminars with national and foreign experts for the whole country. Due to the professional work over many years and the experiences of the IUTU members there has grown a network of contacts to theatre-people in many different countries. The IUTU invites these experts to German universities and theatres, to let them take benefit of their skills.
BERATUNG / ADVISORY
The IUTU offers advice to student- and university-theatre companies and to promoters of other festivals concerning the organisation and practical realisation. With our many years of experience with the Cologne festival, there has grown a pool of experiences of which other festival-administratives can profit. The IUTU works in an honorary capacity and tries to support theatre-initiatives locally with offers of workshops and trainings, etc. and thus tries to enhance the quality of festivals and similar events. What is more, the IUTU sends representatives as observers to numerous festivals and thus can advice and support instantly.
International Cooperation
In the past years the interest in international exchange has increased. In this context many congresses and conferences are being held in order to co-ordinate their activities. The IUTU is participating in the preparation and organisation of these congresses and conferences (Liège, Quebec, Dakar, Krakòw, Olympia, Urbino, Puebla etc.) and understands itself as a supporting part within the process of the European integration. The IUTU is member of IUTA (International University Theatre Association) and it's chairman a part of the IUTA's executive committee.
